HOW TALLOW CAN HELP YOUR SKIN

HOW TALLOW CAN HELP YOUR SKIN

Tallow — especially grass-fed, nutrient-rich beef tallow — has a long history of use in skincare because it closely resembles the structure and composition of human skin’s natural oils (sebum). This similarity makes it both gentle and highly effective for many skin types.

Tallow acts like a skin nutrient delivery system — it doesn’t just sit on top of the skin; it integrates into it. Its composition (nearly identical to our natural oils) makes it highly bioavailable, deeply nourishing, and naturally balancing. Cravings aren’t random—they’re your body’s built-in signal system. Often, when you crave certain foods, it’s not just about taste—it’s about missing nutrients your body is asking for. Learning to decode these signals can help you nourish yourself in a way that satisfies both your appetite and your health.

When you understand what your cravings really mean, you can give your body what it truly needs instead of chasing temporary fixes. Feed the deficiency, not just the desire, and you’ll find balance, energy, and fewer cravings over time.

Power of Raw Sauerkraut

Natural Life

delicious mouthwatering sauerkraut

The Power of Sauerkraut!

In the world of superfoods, raw organic sauerkraut is seriously underrated. It’s not just a trendy topping for your hot dog — it’s a powerful, natural probiotic that can boost your gut health, improve digestion, and even support your immune system. And the best part? It tastes tangy, crunchy, and delicious.

What Is Raw Organic Sauerkraut?

Sauerkraut is simply fermented cabbage. But when it’s **raw and organic**, it hasn’t been pasteurized or filled with preservatives — which means it’s packed with live, gut-friendly bacteria and nutrients. The fermentation process gives it that classic sour flavor and so many health benefits.

The Top Benefits of Raw Organic Sauerkraut

1. It’s a Natural Probiotic
During fermentation, healthy bacteria (like *Lactobacillus*) grow and multiply. These probiotics help balance the bacteria in your gut, which can:
  • Improve digestion
  • Reduce bloating
  • Support regular bowel movements

2. Supports a Strong Immune System
A healthy gut = a strong immune system. About 70% of your immune system lives in your gut, so keeping it in shape is key. Probiotics from sauerkraut can help fight off bad bacteria and keep your body resilient.

3. May Boost Brain Health
There’s a strong link between gut health and brain health — it’s called the gut-brain connection. Some studies suggest probiotics may help improve mood and reduce anxiety. Sauerkraut won’t replace therapy, but it might give your brain a happy little boost.

4. Full of Nutrients
Raw organic sauerkraut is loaded with:
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin K
  • Iron
  • Fiber
It’s low in calories but high in goodness.

Why Raw and Organic Matters.

Most store-bought sauerkraut in jars or cans has been pasteurized (heated) to extend shelf life — but that kills the live probiotics. Choose **raw** (usually found in the refrigerated section) and **organic** to avoid pesticides and additives.

(Ways to Eat Sauerkraut:)

  • On avocado toast
  • Mixed into salads
  • As a side with eggs or roasted veggies
  • On top of grain bowls or tacos
  • Or just eat a forkful straight from the jar!
  • Start with a small amount — your gut might need time to adjust if you’re new to fermented foods.

Your gut is the foundation of your overall health — and sauerkraut is one of the easiest ways to show it some love.

Raw organic sauerkraut is a simple, affordable way to boost your gut health and add a zesty crunch to your meals. It’s real food, made from just cabbage and salt, but packed with benefits your body will thank you for. So next time you’re at the grocery store, swing by the refrigerated section and grab a jar. Your stomach (and your taste buds) will be happy you did. 🙂

Making your own sauerkraut is easy, affordable, and seriously worth it. With just cabbage, salt, and time, you get a fresh, probiotic-rich food that’s way more alive and flavorful than most store-bought versions. PROTECT YOUR FAMILY IN POOL SEASON

PROTECT YOUR FAMILY IN POOL SEASON

photo of a swimming pool near trees

Swimming is a summer must in our home… Especially in the Texas heat. It’s fun, refreshing, and a great way for your family to stay active. But if you swim in chlorinated pools, you’ve probably wondered—is all that chlorine good for our skin and lungs? The answer is that it is not healthy to just have chlorine soak into your skin and the summer heat makes things worse – But I have some good news, you don’t have to give up the pool. With just a few smart habits, you can balance the benefits of swimming with simple ways to protect your health.

Chlorine keeps pools clean by killing bacteria—but it’s also a strong chemical. Over time, regular exposure can be harsh on:

  • Your skin (it strips natural oils)

  • Your lungs (especially in indoor pools)

  • Your body’s overall “toxic load”

Did You Know? Research shows that competitive swimmers often have changes to their skin barrier compared to athletes who train outside the water.

When chlorine mixes with stuff like sweat, skin cells, and pee (yep, it happens), it forms chloramines—and they’re worse than chlorine alone.

Chloramines are linked to:

  1. Red, itchy skin

  2. Burning, watery eyes

  3. Breathing issues (especially for kids with asthma

That strong “chlorine smell”? It’s not pure chlorine—it’s chloramines. And that scent means your pool needs better ventilation or a water refresh.

Vitamin C (aka ascorbic acid) is a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes chlorine and chloramines on your skin. When applied topically:

  • It transforms harsh chemicals into gentle, harmless compounds.
  • It’s safe and effective for all ages.
  • It pairs beautifully with moisturizer after swimming

Swimming should feel good—not leave you itchy, red, or worried about chemicals. Using a Vitamin C spray and moisturizing after your swim, you can enjoy the pool without soaking in the downside.

Make your own, skip the chemicals and be at peace! Because this easy homemade spray is all you need post-swim to keep your family healthy!

Below are some more in depth instructions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup distilled water

  • 1 teaspoon ascorbic acid powder (Vitamin C)

  • 1 amber glass spray bottle (8 oz recommended)

(Why glass? Vitamin C breaks down plastic. If using glass near the pool, use a silicone sleeve to reduce risk of breakage.)

How to Make It:

  1. Stir 1 tsp of ascorbic acid into 1 cup of distilled water.

  2. Mix until fully dissolved.

  3. Pour into your amber glass spray bottle.

  4. Shake before each use, spray onto skin after swimming, and pat dry.

Follow with a moisturizer to lock in hydration and help repair the skin barrier.

FORMS OF MAGNESIUM & THEIR USES

FORMS OF MAGNESIUM & THEIR USES

Did you know that magnesium is one of the most critical nutrients in your body? It is a macromineral that supports a healthy stress response, adrenal function, GI motility, nervous system health, muscle relaxation, and more. Magnesium is also responsible for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, and having enough of the right kinds of magnesium can enable you to feel balanced, capable, and even centered.

Most people are magnesium-insufficient at a cellular level, if not simply deficient. This is because our body’s stress response depletes magnesium, and our typical food sources of magnesium, like leafy greens, salmon, pumpkin seeds, and more, often lack critical minerals due to soil depletion and modern farming methods. Your diet isn’t enough to meet your magnesium needs in today’s world. But there are so many forms of magnesium, and many people have no idea that each one has different uses or that their bodies may respond better to one over another. It might seem a little overwhelming initially, but I want to help break down the different types of magnesium and which ones might be best for you.

Humans need magnesium, while some work better for specific conditions or health issues. The most common form sold over the counter and typically the one Drs. give you is the form magnesium oxide, which has a 4% absorption rate and can cause diarrhea, even in small amounts. Magnesium glycinate on the other hand is better absorbed and is 80% absorbed and it also has glycine, which helps your brain, helps with stress, sleep and more :

  • Bioavailability – This means it’s easily absorbed by the body.
  • Side effects – It’s less likely to cause side effects.
  • Benefits – It can help with muscle relaxation, pain reduction, and inflammation. (It’s also often recommended for anxiety because it may help reduce stress levels.)
  • Form – This kind of magnesium is available in pills, liquids, or powders and can be mixed with water.
  • Sources – Green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, meat, and fish are all great sources of this form.

Magnesium, in general, is also one of those supplements that comes in just about any type you want to take, like capsules, tablets, liquid, powder, and even topical lotion or oil. The best form for you really comes down to personal preference and what you will remember to take every day. I encourage it to look for extra fillers and additives in so many (cheap) supplements. One of my favorite magnesium tips is to get Epsom salts, which are great to have on hand for general relaxation and relief for sore muscles.

NATURAL INGREDIENTS WITH SPF

NATURAL INGREDIENTS WITH SPF

Summer holiday, beach vacation, sea

Often we are worried about the sun and its effects on our skin and overall health. But more than 42% of Americans are not getting enough of the vitamin that our skin produces from sunlight. A 2011 medical study showed that the about two-thirds of the U.S. doesn’t even get enough sun during most months to supply the necessary amount of vitamin D. This shows us that we are in fact not getting enough sun exposure. Recent studies have also shown that people regularly exposed to daily sun have a lower risk of getting melanoma and also have a higher survival rate if they do. There is a new understanding of the connections of skin cancer and lack of vitamin D.

By the early 2000s, research began to suggest a link between vitamin D and lower disease rates for cancers including breast, prostate, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, along with autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Our pattern as humans is to stay indoors and when we do go outside we slather on chemical based paste that doesnt even block out UVB rays which is what is linked to cancer. This lack of sun exposure, vitamin D and our overexposure to toxins is what is contributing to these overall health and skin issues. By staying out of the sun, you are doing more harm than good. The same ultraviolet wavelengths that trigger melanin production also spark vitamin D creation. You cannot make one without the other and supplementing vitamin D is not equivalent to sun exposure.

So, in pursuit of natural and effective sun protection we look to nature, which offers a variety of options that surpass conventional products. These natural wonders provide safe, effective, and eco-friendly ways to protect our skin from harmful UV rays. Below are the top 5 natural sunscreens that can change your approach to sun care, ensuring your skin stays protected under the sun’s radiance.

Each one of these options offers unique benefits, and it’s crucial to combine them with additional sun safety measures for comprehensive care. There are certain sunscreens that have great ingredients – We listed the one we use below with a coupon code if you want one!

It is important to work up a tolerance to sun. If you have not spent limited time in the sun we encourage you to gradually expose yourself to the sun and try not to do it in sunglasses! This may sound crazy but your eyes signal the melanin production that needs to happen in your body through sun exposure. So when you have sunglasses on – you can get burnt faster and more severely! We shouldn’t hide from the sun altogether all summer long; especially given it is such an important vitamin D source! What you can do is, each day, spend a small amount of time outside. This will gradually increase your tolerance, rather than just one day suddenly being caught outside longer than you expect, and getting sunburnt!

THE TOP INGREDIENTS TO AVOID ON FOOD LABELS

THE TOP INGREDIENTS TO AVOID ON FOOD LABELS

photo of orange on top of book

If you are someone who aspires to be healthy, you should care about what is in the food you are eating! Most of us at times buy pre-packaged food and should know what ingredients are in what we consume. The ingredient list provides crucial information that you need and understanding the things to look out for can help you make informed choices.

The most important thing you can do is eat FRESH and non-packaged food from local sources. But if you do at times buy items that are pre-packaged… I am here to help! Often we think that buying organic is enough, unfortunately – that is not true and what scares me the most about some of the ingredients labels you read, is that they are not required to list all that is in an item. They can hide ingredients under broad terms and if something is in smaller amounts – they don’t even have to tell you.

Below are some of the things I personally look for and AVOID at all costs. This may make shopping more difficult, but you are responsible for your health, as well as those you feed. Do not shy away from knowledge – USE WISDOM and apply it!
